Syns of the Scarecrow

I know this makes probably an even bigger dork than anyone could possibly imagine – but OMG OMG OMG!  Scarecrow and Mrs. King, Season One on DVD was just released!!!

Yep – that’s what I said!

I grew up on this TV Show and thought it was the bee’s knees!  Amanda King, ordinary housewife turned into super spy when an agent needs her to continue a mission before he may get killed.  How cool is that?

Bruce Boxleitner went on to star in Babylon 5 with guest spots in Heroes and Chuck while Kate Jackson (best known for her work in Dark Shadows and Charlie Angels) reprised her role in 2006 as Mrs. King in an episode of the Family Guy.

Hey = don’t judge me – if you want to see what the fuss is about check it out!!

Canadian Syns

I’m going out on my own on this one, probably no one else feels this way – but here it goes:

I HATE THE WINTER OLYMPICS!!

It screws with my TV Time.

Sure the men in their skating/ski gear are hot and stuff but can we limit it to one day?  Please?  This is overkill – I’m sure all the events could be held at various locations perhaps during a weekend?  It gets old after awhile.  From the overlong opening to the never-ending closing – I’m just sick of it!

It’s great for good will and foreign relations – but that could be achieved with a small dinner and non-televised,right?  The frickin’ Olympics are messing up mhy TV watching!  I miss coming home and sitting down and having 3-4 episodes of some TV show or another to pick from on DVR.

*sighs*

Thank god it’s only – – EVERY 2 YEARS.

Really?

Golly – I can’t wait.

(Well especially for the Summer Olympics cuz they’re in summer when there’s no good TV and the men are in little bathing suits.  Please note I really don’t mind the Summer Olympics at all!   In fact, they should make up more ‘sports’ for the men’s division – like water wrestling (in an inch of water, mind you) or men’s tanning, men’s free style sun lotion applications, or maybe a HOTTEST BUNS contest?  Just a few thoughts…..)

A Host of Syns

Last night, I helped out a friend with a project for his film class.

Yes, I was host to a TV show!!  Granted it’s on Milwaukee Public TV at like 1 or 2 am sometime in April – but it’s still TV!  The project he helmed was on Alternative Remedies (crystal healing, raindrop therapy, etc.).  I announce the segments and then had an interview with a very cool woman about raindrop therapy!

I’ll know more in a bit to let y’all know when it’s going to air and stuff!

In the meantime – here’s a bit about crystals and raindrops….

Rain Drop Therapy: Raindrop Therapy combines aromatherapy with the techniques of Vita Flex, reflexology, massage, etc., in the application of essential oils, which are applied on various areas of the body.

Crystal Healing: Crystal healing is a form of healing that uses crystals or gemstones. The crystals are mainly placed on specific areas of the body called “chakras.”

Smallville: Population Minus One

I think I’ve said this before but ….  Everyone has been on frickin’ Smallville EXCEPT for Teri Hatcher…

WTF!

Teri – get thee on to that show before it ends ASAP!

Dean Cain, Margot Kidder, Christopher Reeve, Terrance Stamp, Annette O’Toole, etc have ALL been on it – so what makes you so special?

Aren’t you ‘Desperate’ enough?

Just satisfy the comic/TV/movie geeks and at least play a woman in the crowd or cafe – something?

Just a thought….

AMA Syns

So, yesterday I was watching the AMAs and they sucked as per usual – I don’t know why I watch them – they’re popular music and I tend not to like popular music – I should have stayed away.  Green Day was about the only highlight for me – I was – – – WAS – – looking forward to Adam Lambert, but it seemed too cookie cutter, safe and over-produced just like everything on the show (WHY didn’t he sing the song from the movie 2012: A Time for Miracles????). Eh – oh well.  I kind of wish that they would just hand out the awards and not have anyone sing (yes, I’m talking about Whitney too – even tho she won that ‘special’ award).

Next time – I should go with my gut and tune it out like I do the Grammys!  OK OK I probably won’t but I’ll think it!

The thing is – I’m an award show junkie and I do like seeing what people are wearing (kudos to Paula Abdual and Kelly Clarkson).

Just a PS – why is Perez whats-his-face famous again?  Just wondering….

Hope everyone had a GREAT weekend – and PPS – my mom is doing good!!

“V”: WTF!

marvin-the-martianOriginal 1983 premise: When aliens come to Earth to ask for our help, a few suspicious humans discover their horrific true intentions and prepare to resis

Brand New 2009 premise: An extraterrestrial race arrives on Earth with seemingly good intentions, only to slowly reveal their true machinations the more ingrained into society they become.

My bitch: WHY?!?!? Can’t America come up with ANY new ideas?  At least have this start with a twist?  Maybe even pick up years after the first ‘visiters’ came?  It’s basically the same frickin’ show – there was a movie in 1983, then a series and NOW they’re re-hashing it?  Really??  Who thought that was a good idea?  I know what’s next – they’ll re-make Psycho – oh, wait someone already did – and THAT sure was steller!

Is it just me?

Is someone just as fed up with non-original content in the media?  Must we have all these re-makes?

OMG. OMG. OMG.

Gunning for Syns

gunn_l

Since I’m a HUGE Project Runway FAN & it’s a Friday & I’m The Roy & etc… Here’s a recent interview that Tim Gunn (HOTTIE) gave Jill Serjeant (Reuters) on Thursday Aug. 27th, 2009.  ** Have I mentioned that Tim Gunn is a HOTTIE?? **

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Tim Gunn, fashion guru and urbane mentor to the budding designers on TV’s “Project Runway“, was forced to swap his impeccable tailored look for something more casual when the fashion reality show moved from New York to laid-back Los Angeles this season.

So with the show finally underway on U.S. TV again after a legal hiatus of almost a year, look out for Gunn dressed in — flip-flops?!

Gunn, 56, the polite voice of reason and constructive advice for the competing designers, talked to Reuters about the return of the show — and how free-wheeling LA changed some of his own ideas.

Q: How did you feel about the show’s move from New York to Los Angeles and the city’s very different approach to fashion.

A: “Los Angeles is a more casual place. Executives dress more casually. Having lunch at the Four Seasons Hotel, you see studio executives wearing a suit and an open shirt but no tie. I would go to the workroom with the designers every day at the beginning wearing a suit. But finally I thought, I’ve got to get with it. There is an episode (where) you’ll find me in flip flops. You won’t find that in New York, but you’ll find it in LA. And when the show returns to LA, I’m packing the flip flops!”

Q: Do more experienced designers on the show have an advantage over the younger ones?

A: Not necessarily. In my experience, the more experience one has, the more second guessing or over-thinking one does versus the younger and less experienced contestants who have an ease and agility on how they attack a problem …. It all begins and ends when we go fabric shopping. Derailment, generally speaking, has to do with materials that are not appropriate or that they are not familiar with and then the whole thing goes awry … If you’ve never worked with silk charmeuse — are you crazy? Drop it!.”

Q: How much input do you get in decisions the judges make about who wins a “Project Runway” challenge and who goes home?

A; “None. I know nothing about who wins and who loses until I hear it coming out of Heidi’s mouth. It can be very frustrating for me because I am an advocate for the designers. What confounds me is some of the things the designers say to the judges. And during their deliberations, how off the mark the judges can occasionally be about a certain designer’s work. It’s all I can do to bite my tongue and keep from running up there and saying ‘wait a minute!’.”

Q: How do you keep your temper and good humor? There is only one known occasion when you lost it on the show.

A: “Yes, that was with Kenley (in season 5). My patience was simply exhausted and I was just tired of her rudeness … In the course of 29 years of teaching, you develop a lot of resources to deal with students you’d like to smack. There is one moment in season 6, backstage at New York Fashion Week at Bryant Park, when I said ‘I am about to lose it’. I was beyond despair. We had nano seconds before the runway show was starting, and there were still models who didn’t have any clothes on.”

Q: Are we going to see more of your other TV venture “Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style“?

A: “We’re talking about a way of repackaging and re-pitching it to Lifetime Television. It is a sincere honor for me to work with these fashion-challenged women who declare they need help. They do the heavy lifting and they are the ones who have the epiphany about who they can be, as opposed to a make-over show when an individual becomes my dress-up doll.

“What do they learn from that? Don’t run to the trend. My key to getting fashion right has to do with silhouette, proportion and fit. It’s not about individual items or colors and textures. It’s really about that harmony of silhouette, proportion and fit on your particular body, and I believe anybody can look good.”

Art & Copy

Last night, the people I work with were all invited to a movie screening of a documentary entitled “Art & Copy” (directed by Doug Pray).  It was about advertising and hit upon the major ones that got people to buy (“Just do it” “Where’s the beef?” Tommy Hillfiger ads, “I Want My MTV” and just about everything Apple).

I guess that was my major disappointment in this documentary.  It focused mainly on ‘the old boys club’ with a couple (2 I think) white women talking about how great marketing is and how awesome it is to have people follow you as you dictate what they should buy, or how they should even feel.

It got kind of claustrophobic for me.  Where was the diversity?  Where were the ads that didn’t work and why?  Sure it was great to dwell on the BIG BOY adds – but after awhile it just felt like one big ad for Nike and Apple – especially the Mac guys – – -makes me wonder how much money they gave the directors to promote this movie – just a ponder, mind you now, just a ponder….

I wanted to at least get a slice of America from this movie – just to know that advertising is reflective of our society.

But it really isn’t.

Of course the movie is more of a history of advertising and marketing but I really had a hard time swallowing that this was all there is – or perhaps why focus on only these.  There is a LOT more ground to cover – maybe the director didn’t want to work too hard – or maybe after all the money Nike or Apple gave to them, it would be a conflict of interest…. again, just a ponder – just a ponder…..

Let me know if you’ve seen this movie or what your thoughts are.  As for me I’ll just post a little advertising diversity, CHEERS!!

Emmy-Syns

I can’t wait – I know that makes me a BIG LOSER but hey, I’m only human!

Not only are Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange up for the same category for their movie Grey Gardens but they’re up against Shirley MacLaine!  Does it get better than that drama?  Plus all the people 30 Rock have guest appearances with are up – and then there’s Betty White – I hope she wins.

Two people I really wanted to see on the list were Patricia Arquette for Medium and Bernadette Peters for Ugly Betty.  If you’ve seen Bernadette on that show you’d know she deserves at least a mention.  She should get spun off on her own show – just an observation.

Bernie

I’ve loved Bernadette ever since Heartbeeps with Andy Kauffman.  She’s amazing – well there is that musical Annie – but still…. when you figure in her TV movies, Into the Woods, Gypsy, concerts, Slaves of New York and yes!  EVEN Pink Cadillac – she is ONE GREAT ACTRESS! ok ok Entertainer! !!

*sighs*

Can I also just add, if I may – what happened to True Blood??? I have just recently started watching this amazing show and Anna Paquin is a goddess and she’s NOT nominated?  I’m just saying… WTF??? Really??? Seriously???  Emmy pickers must not get cable.

My personal congrats go out to: Steve Martin (guest on 30 Rock), Ed Asner (guest on CSI), Beau Bridges (guest on Desperate Housewives), Jennifer Aniston (guest on 30 Rock), Elaine Stritch (guest on 30 Rock), Tina Fey (SNL as Sarah Palin), Carol Burnette (Law & Order guest), Heidi Klum (host of Project Runway), Toni Collette (United States of Tara), Sally Field (Brothers and Sisters), Sigourney Weaver (movie: Prayers for Bobby), Kathy Griffin (My Life on the D-List) and really to a BIG kudos to everyone nominated – because truly it is just a tremendous honor to be nominated!

Anywho – I can’t wait until the Emmys are broadcast – it’ll be me an chips and salsa and a big ol’ margarita!

*CHEERS*

Tony Syns!

Neil Patrick Harris is set to host the Tony Awards in June, ok ok, Jue 7th to be exact on CBS: 8pm!! I can’t wait!!!

nphtonyawards

It should be one heck of a night – especially if you’ve seen the TV Land Awards last month – I’m still laughing from ‘Doogies’ hosting skills on that show!   I do love my Broadway – not a total geek about it – but I am going to NYC next week (going to see 9 to 5 hopefully and Avenue Q again).   I just had no idea that he’s been in so many shows on Broadway!

– Assassins

– Cabaret

– Proof

Quote from Doogie from http://www.playbill.com: “The discipline of live theatre – doing the same perfect thing night after night, eight times a week – never ceases to amaze me. I’m truly honored to have been chosen as the Master of Ceremonies for this year’s Tony Awards, and I hope to help provide a first-class evening for all.”

I’m going for the first time with Flippy and it’s her first time in NYC – it should be a hoot!

Anyway, hope everyone has a GREAT weekend

Making of Me: John Barrowman

swingindex

I just watched the BBCs documentary with John Barrowman called The Making of Me.  It is a much watch for anyone interested in finding out more about why someone is gay.  It probes issues of nature and nurture and goes to the root of how we are made up.

I’m not going to bore you with the details, just check it out sometime via youtube, BBC America – and hopefully it’ll be available on DVD soon!

Somethings it does touch on: Overbearing mother, DNA, converting, religion, twins, testosterone in the womb, how many siblings you have and children’s toys.

And while I’m at it – can I just say how much I love the Barrowmans??  I met his sister at a book signing last year and his mom and dad – they are the most put together family – it’s just nice to see.  Not that my family isn’t supportive and stuff – but it’s good to see a public gay man with that network of both family, friends and bf around him.

Just shows that we’re all the same and we can achieve the same things.  Everyone’s story is different – not many people can say that they have that – but most people assume that that’s the reason someone is gay – ‘something has to happen’, etc.

See for yourselves and if you want to learn more, there are 6 parts on youtube, or check out BBC.com. (http://www.bbcamerica.com/content/356/index.jsp)

Adam Lambert

Can I just say again… I HOPE HE WINS!  🙂  Read on from eonline.com (by Carrie Borzillo-Vrenna and photo by Ray Micksh (FOX):

425lambertadamcm033109

Want to know Adam Lambert‘s little secret? You speak. He listens.

Let us explain. You see, Adam, the funky-haired rocker from San Diego, has a penchant for Googling himself. He told us so at the top 13 party a few weeks back. Well, a source behind the scenes at Idol tonight told us that the reason Adam went for the slicked back hairdo for two weeks in a row is because, “he read online how much his fans liked it, and he listens to their opinions.”

“The look works for him and the judges like it too,” says the source. “I doubt he’ll keep it up, though.”

Fair enough. We think it’s working for him too. Hair aside, Adam’s performance of Wild Cherry’s “Play That Funky Music” was the crowd favorite of the night and garnered the loudest applause.

And, cheering in the crowd was Neil Patrick Harris. Keep reading to find out what Neil told us exclusively about Adam and about the finale of How I Met Your Mother

Here’s what you didn’t see on camera from tonight’s iTunes Top 100 performance show:

Neil Patrick Harris on Adam Lambert: “Adam did tear it up vocally tonight. No male in this competition has sung so well. He really hit those notes.” Now about that finale of HIMYM: “There will be lots of fireworks.”

Lake effect on the Roy

Here it is, Tuesday morning and the snow began to fall very early this morning.  I live by Lake Michigan (2 blocks) and the lake effect snow started – it looks lovely, until I drove into the city – it’s already almost black now on the edges – ah well – – good while it lasted!

Last night I got into my favorite show again – Heroes.  Can I just say, thank you to the writers for keeping it fresh and thank god for Medium.  These shows help the winter duldroms, that’s for sure!

As for me – I’m starting to fantasize about my trip to California next month!

I hope everyone has a great Feb.!!!
