In the year of our Lord 1993, I moved into a house with Flippy. It was the summer before my last year of college and Flippy’s first time living off campus and the house we found to rent was haunted.

We came upon this house on College Ave. through our friends Jeremy and Jason who were moving out and it was CHEAP ($187.50 per month per person). Laundry was downstairs, Flippy and I on the main floor and Joann, a friend of ours, was going to be living upstairs. Rugby team next door, Trevor across the street, Lara, Tamara and Chris moved into the house next door to us later that fall and another friend, Scott lived around the corner. Yep, friends abounded all around us….oh and there was a funeral parlor behind us.

It started right away -

The week I moved in, I thought I was the only one at the house. Obviously I wasn’t since the lights went on and off during the day/night, doors that were unlocked were locked and vice versa. Then, I thought a young girl was helping Joann move upstairs because I thought I heard someone playing on them during the day once. Well, it turned out that no one moved in while I was there that first week. Joann moved in when Flippy did, in June.

Odd.

Then there was our housewarming party. I found Tamara in my bedroom facing the bathroom door. She was talking, I thought, to herself. She wasn’t. She was tipsy however and she said that the 2 guys in the corner of my room were funny. I looked and told her no one was there. She said that one had a long nose, long blond hair and the other wore overalls. I said no one was there as I looked to see if they went into the bathroom. She shrugged and I helped her to the party. They must have left.

Well, they didn’t.

In the months after that several odd things would happen. There were water spots on the kitchen floor, knocks on the bathroom door in my room, voices at night, talking to people in my sleep, lamps falling, objects moving down in the basement and so on. Once in a while you could swear someone was sitting or standing in the living room when you were in a hurry getting out the door. My dog at the time came for a visit and he would not go in my room and basically just sat and whined.

The lamp incident prompted me to get for help. It was close to a year after we moved in and enough was enough already!

A lady that owned the psychic store downtown came into the store I worked at. I normally never have seen her out of her store, I thought it was a sign. I began to tell her why she needed to come to my house. She stopped me and told me to write the address down and give it to her. She was holding a ‘Psychic Fair’ that weekend and 6 other store owners from around the country were going to be there. She told me they would come to my place and see what they could pick up… in that case I told her nothing as to why she should come.

That Sunday, after the Fair, with Lisa at work, Joann and I met them at the door. They were all standing a ways away from the house just staring at it – we found out later that they actually couldn’t see the house because of the energy surrounding it – I’m kind of glad they didn’t tell us this right away…

There was a Native American that arrived with them who took off his shoes immediately and started walking around the perimeter of the house barefoot. He may have chanted, I don’t really remember… Then the other psychics came in. The leader, the woman from the store, told me that they would start at the 2nd floor and start down because that was the least ‘powerful’ and they would get to the ‘center’ of it later.

Upstairs, the only other woman psychic, started to cry hysterically. Turned out that there was an old woman ghost there. Joann said that she had never felt or heard anything up there – but the woman was old, didn’t/couldn’t talk and was an invalid towards the end of her life. She didn’t have much to do up there in general.

On the way down, after they sent the woman ‘into the light’, one of the psychics said they felt a presence of a little girl that would play on the stairs – I kept my mouth shut. I felt that before – but was taken by surprise of what they said.

Then our apartment was next. They said the main point in our part of the house was the door in my bedroom to the bathroom. It my have once been a staircase downstairs. They said 2 gentlemen – using the operative word, congregated around that doorway and 2 of the psychics described what Tamara saw over a year ago. Long hair and sharp nose on one of them and the other had overalls on. Kind of intense.

We got into a circle and tried to get more information from the house. Turned out that those men would chase the girl (from the stairs) into the basement. The old woman (grandma?) couldn’t do anything. Downstairs is where EVIL happened. They eluded to molestation, beating, etc.

We went down there to see if the psychics could go there to make the men leave. We lasted 2 seconds down there when ALL of them had to get out FAST. I was confused but they said the men were ‘too powerful’ to move.

In our living room, we gathered again. We held hands and tried to get the girl to leave. It was uncertain whether she made it or not because the men wouldn’t let her go.

That night, Lisa and I stayed up on the Ouija board to find out more. Her name was Lucia (confirmed later by a photo a friend of ours found – naming a girl that lived there: Lucy). It was unclear if Lucy died there, but her ghost was tied to the house and was being kept by the two men.

I moved out shortly after that – after a year and a half of living there. I moved to Milwaukee and Lisa moved shortly after that to move in with Lara. The ghosts didn’t make us leave, it was a CHEAP apt and cute, that’s why we stayed there. I guess I’d live there another year there if I had to.

The point is, even being skeptical ( I need to see/feel something before I believe) you never know what’s lying around the next corner. Everything, also, doesn’t have an exact answer and you can’t tuck everything into a nice little package – sometimes, you can’t find out a why and how and try to get a ghost over to the other side like they do in movies. Furthermore, with the ghosts speaking through me in my sleep and trying to get Flippy to wake up in the night, I am really glad we were there for each other. The people that have lived before and after that have NEVER had anything happen at all.

Why?

I guess we’ll never know.

Mo and Me** When handeling a haunting here are some musts: If you think you have a ghost(s), use sage or cedar inscense – this helps to ground you and the house.  The Native American had it right too:  If your house or apt is haunted, walking around barefoot makes the home yours – leave as much of your energy around as much as possible.  Sprinkle salt – it’s a purifyiing agent.  Laughter helps when contacting spirits, it attract ones to help you and it attracts young spirits – might be more playful, but benevolent spirits will abound and help the bad spirits if you have any.  One thing that helps when and if you choose a ouija board:  get candles around you in a circle – white candles or black are the best, unscented are the best unless you have a favorite scent.  Blue or purple candles will do as well.  Laugh, it not only helps to ground you but will attract good spirits.  When reading cards, follow the same steps and your favorite music will help you too.  If anyone is around you living make sure they don’t move during the process or if they do, or you have to, ask permission – this helps greatly.  Visualize white light surrounding yourself in everything you do – if you have questons or helpful hints, let me and the readers know.

Ok. The Lamp Incident was super freaky. It was a ceiling fixture with a ball screwed upward to hold on the lamp. This was in Roy’s room. We were in the living room, having coffee, when CRASH. That f*ckr fell right off the ceiling! But, the ball was STILL screwed on tight!!!! *freaky*

Oh! I walked around the house with the Native American dude. We were both barefoot. He had a special feather and this wooden dish. We put in bit of things including some cedar from the trees outside. We then walked around the house burning the cedar and marking the house as mine. That was cool. We also took a stick of sage or something and smudged the inside of the house. Making every nook and cranny mine. Very neat.

AND! Remember that night with Susie and Scott..and some other people. We had the Ouija board out… when you and I had the marker, it went faster than I could have thought possible. It took someone standing by, taking notes and then separating letters into words to understand the message from the board. That darn ghost sent messages in complete sentences!!! If I recall, he didn’t appreciate our aliveness vs. his deadness. Didn’t Tamera later find pictures that backed up descriptions we’d come up with?

I totally remember that! Yes, but it was Susie that found more out about that house. Even with all the ghosts and bats, we did have our fun times too :)

I love reading all of your stories Roy..I’ll be on here all night reading LOL! I have had many strange things happen to me as well for years now. My mothers best friend does readings and she told me some things to do, which you talked about. I always have sage and cedar incense on hand heard about the salt thing as well, looking forward to more reads! :)
