Trip to Hoboken

This past weekend, I went to see old friends in Hoboken, NJ.  I went with my good buddy, Alan and left on….

Thursday – 6am drove to the airport – plane was diverted after we flew around Newark for over a half hour due to weather.  By 12:30pm we were in Pittsburgh and by 3pm we were back in Milwaukee.  We stayed around the Milwaukee airport to see if we could get a flight out and we did… at 6pm.  We had a show to go see at 8pm in NYC.  We showed up at the Newark airport at 9:10pm – we didn’t make our show.  No Priscilla.  But we did get to see our pals and get to bed.

Friday – woke up, had lunch at Vynyl (a great spot for lunch with records stapled to the ceiling and album covers as menues) We made some pitstops for shopping and went back to get ready to go out.  I don’t remember much that night – but I”m sure I had fun!

Saturday – Ate at a GREAT BBQ place (Dallas) and got to see The Divine Sister at the Soho Theater.  Went out after that and got to bed after some leftover Chinese food and a cocktail.

Sunday – Went to Brooklyn – Did a lot of walking and shopping and came back to rest, get food and pack for the ride home.

Monday – Left Hoboken at 9:30am and got back to Milwaukee in the afternoon.  Weather was perfect and it was so nice to spend time with friends even after the delay!

Here are some pix of the weekend – Enjoy and I hope you had a GREAT weekend too!

Syns in Point

This past weekend I had a great time visiting my mom and brother.

My brother isn’t doing too well with his seizures – he is dizzy a lot and they seem to be more powerful than before.

That said – it was a great time seeing both of them this weekend!  I had a lot of food – because that’s what my mom does – cook! mmmmm

It was a very quiet time – especially since my mom got on demand free movies – we saw SOOOO many flicks this weekend!

After mom’s I went to Appleton, met up with Alan on Sunday.

Shopped a bit and went back to Milwaukee.

A very fun-filled weekend – hope you had one as well!

Same Old Syns

I just freaked a bit and forgot about posting something in a long time – but then I thought about what to talk about….

I really don’t know -

Wisconsin’s Gov. Walker is still a big pain in the ass.

I’m still single.

Elizabeth Taylor died.

I was in Green Bay last weekend.

Seeing my mom soon.

I’m sure there’ll be more exciting things to write about soon – but until then – I do hope everyone has a GREAT weekend!

Another Town, Another Weekend

This weekend, I went home to celebrate my mom’s birthday.

It was very cool to go home and see her brand new kitchen!! She’s been getting a new one for about a month and it just got finished.  New floors, new cupboards, etc.  VERY spiffy!

Friday I came home after an awlful drive!  It was pitch black, snowy and very hard to see.  I did make it safely tom my mom’s and had a late dinner and went to bed after my mom and I hung out.

Saturday I took my mom and brother shopping.  Got some cool things for my mom (facial scrubs, glasses, various stuff – oh and I came down – which is a HUGE present in and of itself!!  I even got a haircut (and color)…

Dan had a hard day tho – 5 (?!?!) siezures!  After the last one (a violent one) we learned a valubable lesson – sometimes you just have to step away from a siezure even though you want to help.  You may get hurt in the crossfire.  I just hope he will be ok.  My mom is a real trooper!

Sunday – after plenty of rest from the day before – we had a nice breakfast, Hallmark movies and a cool lunch.  Driving back home was better – I did it in the day light!  I even made it back just in enough time to see and mock the Grammys with my roommate, Flippy!

All in all it was quite the weekend – hope you had a nice one!

Thank-syning

I had quite the weekend!

Thursday: Woke up and went to see my mom.  I got there and she was deathly ill but still made turkey, stuffing, 2 pies and slaw.  My brother and I ate while my mom laid down.  The evening she was not doing any better.  My brother and I watched some Dr. Who.

Friday:  Finally had my mom go to the E.R.  Found out she had a viral infection.  Got her on meds 4 hours later.  My brother and I got her in bed and went out to eat and picked up some things for my mom.  My brother got Sherlock Holmes at Best Buy and we watched a whole bunch of that later in the eve.

Saturday:  Flippy came to visit to see how my mom was doing.  Went out to lunch with my brother and I.  She left at 3pm and my brother and I saw Tangled.

Sunday:  My mom was feeling a bit better and we ate some coffee cake.  She managed to get some food finally and some coffee.  I left after breakfast to get to Milwaukee.  Once home, I went for a margarita or 3 with Alan.

Long, busy Thanksgiving – but at least everyone is OK and made it safely home!

Syns with Candy

This past weekend was BUSY!

I did manage to get to the play FREAKSHOW!  I went on Thursday – sure I went by myself, but at least I’m a cheap date!  The play only lasted an hour, but it was in an abandoned warehouse on the South side of Milwaukee.  Creepy to say the least.  I wasn’t the only one there alone – which was nice.  It lasted just over an hour, but it was INTENSE!  I suggest going to see it if you get a chance – at its core it’s a deeply, moving piece!

Sunday I went to see Amy Sedaris!!  I couldn’t wait to see her live and she didn’t disappoint me.  She even did demonstrations from her new book “Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People”.  She dragged a boy I knew up on stage with her – surreal.  Out of all the people in the audience… life – it’s bigger – it’s bigger than you and you are not me.

After the performance and Q&A from the audience we each got to see her up close.  I got to ask her what the heck happened to the Bewitched movie and when is Gladys going to have her own movie.  I told her I loved her and that my friend that introduced me to Strangers with Candy couldn’t make it because he was probably stoned.  She understood.

The rest of the weekend was muddled with canceled plans, drinks, movies, shopping and eye exams.

All in all – a good time was had by The Roy.

How was your weekend?

Sedaris Syns

On a lighter note – I have tickets to see Amy Sedaris in Milwaukee!!  It’s this Sunday, and the price of the ticket includes her book (signed).  I CANNOT WAIT – should be a hoot & a holler!  Flippy is going with me and hopefully I’ll see other friends there too!

Her new book is called Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People.

From the publisher about this book:

America’s most delightfully unconventional hostess and the bestselling author of “I Like You” delivers a new book that will forever change the world of crafting. According to Amy Sedaris, it’s often been said that ugly people craft and attractive people have sex. In her new book, SIMPLE TIMES, she sets the record straight. Demonstrating that crafting is one of life’s more pleasurable and constructive leisure activities, Sedaris shows that anyone with a couple of hours to kill and access to pipe cleaners can join the elite society of crafters.
You will discover how to make popular crafts, such as: crab-claw roach clips, tinfoil balls, and crepe-paper moccasins, and learn how to: get inspired (Spend time at a Renaissance Fair; Buy fruit, let it get old, and see
what shapes it turns into); remember which kind of glue to use with which material (Tacky with Furry, Gummy with Gritty, Paste with Prickly, and “always” Gloppy with Sandy); create your own craft room and avoid the most common crafting accidents (sawdust fires, feather asphyxia, pine cone lodged in throat); and cook your own edible crafts, from a Crafty Candle Salad to Sugar Skulls, and many more recipes.
PLUS whole chapters full of more crafting ideas (Pompom Ringworms! Seashell Toilet Seat Covers!) that will inspire you to create your own hastily constructed obscure d’arts; and much, much more!

I’ll let y’all know how it was!

Under Pressure

Had a SUPER dinner last night at Meritage – it’s a place to eat by the Times Theater in Milwaukee – had stuffed poblano peppers and Argentinian red wine – it was AWESOME – I suggest going there ASAP for anyone that likes good food.  The waitstaff is NEAT-O too!

Have a GREAT weekend!

I don’t care syns

I came across one of my favorite songs being covered by the Dresdon Dolls!  Catch it here (below):

I was feeling a little sad on Monday for my dad and Flippy’s mom’s birthday is this week was well – just a bit of a depressing week – but I had a nice time with my Who Pal last night – we saw an episode of Sarah Jane Adventures and had some wine – always a good thing!  If you haven’t seen Sarah Jane – check it out ASAP!

I’m continuing to like No Ordinary Family while Glee is kind of getting on my nerves still – I’ll give it another go but there’s just too much melodrama, unrealistic plots/characters, etc … eh.  dunno… Anyone have any thoughts on it, let me know!

In the mean time – I’m trying to get to loose 20 pounds so that I can get to the Bahamas with Cookie – wish me luck!  We’ve started the contest and we both have our target weights set.  Hope to go this Spring if we hit the mark!  I’ll keep y’all posted!

Oh, just got a new t-shirt in the mail the other day – - like it?

Happy Wednesday!

Paranormal Syns 2

I had a very quiet weekend, which was nice – there has been a lot of settling into the new place.  The only thing I did socially was go to see Paranormal Activity 2.  OMG it was AWESOME!  I suggest it to everyone!!  Oh and Flippy and I did the brunch thing on Sunday!!  Steak, potatoes and a Bloody Mary!

I went shopping at Kohl’s to get some winter things (hat, gloves, scarf, sweaters, etc) and yesterday I went to a friends place to watch a Harrison Ford flick called Firewall - interesting movie…

It may not have been the most exciting weekend – but I’m gearing up for the Paris thing, so a calm weekend or two in the next month is probably OK.

I hope everyone had a GREAT weekend!!

Syns of Drinking Alone

I thought I’d try this again – it’s been a long, long time – -

After dinner last night, I went to a local gay bar by myself for a cocktail.  I don’t have anyone to go out with during the week, so I usually stay home and watch TV or read.  I am totally doing that from now on.

I don’t see how anyone would go to a bar alone – it’s freakin’ boring.

One good thing was the bartender – but only when he was free to talk.  People at bars are usually in cliques or couples and don’t let others in very easily.  There were 2 lesbians next to me – but even that was pretty much limited to a joke or two.  I read a couple of gay rags and left after about 35 minutes.

While I felt odd about the whole experience, I wasn’t surprised.  I am glad I did it for something different than just heading home after dinner – but I so don’t need to do it again anytime soon.

If anyone else has suggestions or stories about being in bars alone, I would appreciate it.

From now on – I’m totally waiting until friends or at least a friend, can go out with me – other than that, I’ll be having a cocktail by the TV light!

Walker’s Syns

I know, it’s very not me to get political on y’all.  But… here it goes.  I’m not – NOT – a Scott Walker fan (The Milwaukee County Executive and the Shepherd Express’ Jerk of the Year and hopeful next governor of Wisconsin.

Below is The Jerk of the Year post from the Shepherd which basically represents my views on the problem that is Scott Walker.  Read on:

MILWAUKEE COUNTY EXECUTIVE SCOTT WALKER: MILWAUKEE’S JERK OF THE YEAR

The readers and the critics agree on this one. There wasn’t much competition for this honor, since Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker beat the second-place finisher by almost 5 to 1. So where do we begin? Let’s start with Walker’s complete phoniness—on the county budget and his laughable tax promises and job-creation pledge; about his brief, C-average stint at Marquette University; or his total mismanagement of crucial services provided by Milwaukee County. Then there’s Walker’s complete lack of leadership as county executive because of his all-consuming desire to be governor, which keeps him on the fund-raising and campaign trail 24-7. And don’t forget his fundamental lack of respect for county employees who show up to work day in and day out—except this year, when they’re forced to take up to 26 unpaid furlough days just so Walker can pretend that he knows how to balance a budget. We know that Walker’s getting a free ride in the Journal Sentinel, which has backed his career since he served in the state Assembly. But Shepherd readers know Walker’s true track record, and that’s why they had no choice but to name him Jerk of the Year. And to all of you outside of Milwaukee: You’ve been warned!

Double Cheese Syns

Getting sick of all the B.S. out there in world?  All the hate?  The lies?  The government?  Feeling powerless, used, abused and just plain tired of the day-to-day routine?

Have yourself a double cheeseburger – granted things won’t get better instantly, but it’ll make you feel a whole lot better!  (If you’re vegetarian – dude, it’s one life, enjoy just one double cheeseburger – - trust me!) *haha*
